MUSIC

The pastime that has given me the greatest pleasure over the years is undoubtedly music. Not just listening to it, but writing it, playing it and recording it. I play violin, guitar and bass, although the electric lead guitar is by far my favorite.

One man's music is another man's headache they say and my particular thing is hard rock - not heavy metal - and progressive music. Deep Purple, Yes, Little Feat, Boston, Jimi Hendrix - that kind of thing. Yip! I'm a fan of the late 60s early 70s era. If you like that stuff then visit Purple People Eater's Rock Review.

You can also look up the site of the best band I played in,
Down At Heel. Check out the long hair! Well, it was the 70's!

FAITH

These days I help with teaching the Bible at a home group. Having been an atheist for some years I became a Christian in the early 90s. There is a difference between religion and faith, and between church and the Christian life. Faith is essentially about the person of Jesus Christ - it is not a set of rules!

I am webmaster of a site called Living Word Net that aims to explain the faith and to help those who are already believers to grow in their belief. You will find my testimony of how I became convinced about Jesus there too. I also write a monthly column in the church bulletin called Obiter Dictum.

CV

I am a graduate of Leeds University where I studied Chinese and Philosophy. Pretty useless except to get a good table in the Chinese restaurant, and for pretending to be clever!

I went to Rossall School in Lancashire, and despite being born in Surrey and living much of my adult life in Hertfordshire, I always think of myself as a Northerner at heart.

I work in the City of London for an investment bank where I trade currencies and spent five years working in Johannesburg.
